September 16, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm MDT

Free

Dive deep into the intricate artistry of traditional Navajo weaving with Colleen Biakeddy, a master weaver from Big Mountain, Arizona.

Set against the backdrop of the Moab Museum, this three-day event kicks off with a presentation on “Raising Navajo Churro Sheep and Wool Processing.” As attendees immerse themselves in Biakeddy’s tales of raising these unique sheep and supporting shepherds, they’ll gain insights into traditional wool processing methods. An interactive segment allows participants to touch and feel Navajo Churro wool at various stages of its transformation.

About Colleen Biakeddy:
Hailing from the Navajo Nation, Biakeddy’s life has been a tapestry woven with lessons from her ancestors. With a lineage rich in weaving traditions, she stands as a beacon of the Red Running Into Water Clan, and a child of the Water Flows Together Clan. Biakeddy not only weaves but also raises sheep and goats, sourcing her own fibers. Her dedication is evident through her active roles in Diné be’ iiná Inc., the Navajo-Churro Sheep Association, and as a founding pillar of the Navajo Churro Lamb Presidium.
