The Moab Museum is elated to present a special program, harmonizing with its evocative exhibit, “The People’s Tapestry: Weaving Tradition in Navajo Culture.” Come to the museum’s South Gallery on Thursday, October 19th, where from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., you can witness the magic of weaving as Roy Kady skillfully demonstrates the craft. But the enlightenment doesn’t stop there. At 6:30 p.m., Roy will take attendees on a guided tour of the exhibition, offering profound insights into the rich history, artistry, and significance of the Navajo textiles on display. Dive deep into a culture, discovering the nuances that define Navajo weaving, from traditional patterns to the ethos of hózhóó—balance, harmony, and intrinsic beauty. This is an unparalleled opportunity for both admirers of Navajo culture and enthusiasts of textile arts.
About Roy Kady: Emerging from the serene landscapes of Goat Spring, Arizona, Roy Kady stands today as a paragon of weaving mastery. Having honed his skills from childhood under the guidance of his mother, Roy is now celebrated for his diverse and intricate designs. His life’s work goes beyond weaving; he fervently champions the preservation of Navajo Churro sheep and passionately imparts his weaving knowledge to keen learners nationwide.
